We celebrated Karen's birthday on Saturday. The Shertz family makes the dinner of request for the birthday person and Karen picked: marinated flank steak, broccoli, rolls, and cake. I was in charge of the cake and she gave me three options. I choose the carrot cake. I jumped at the chance because I LOVE to bake and just got the prettiest cake display as a gift for our wedding. So I made my first (I have made one before but it was soooo ugly it doesn't count) double layer cake. While at the store I found these cool food coloring pens so I picked them up. Graham can draw, so I thought maybe he could have some fun decorating the cake. He drew his signature character Mrs. Denstat (I must ask him how to spell this correctly) and then wrote Happy B-Day. We were pretty proud of ourselves so I had to share. There are pics of Karen with the cake, but Wayne has those on his camera so once we get a copy of those I will put them up as well. I will put them up with the recipe to the cake, as we all didn't hesitate to have seconds. Also thanks Leigh Ann for my new spatula it made icing the cake MUCH easier!
